Welcome to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church

Just a few blocks from Wiarton’s waterfront, St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church has been a faithful presence in the community since 1889—five years before the town itself was incorporated. With a tradition of worship, outreach, and active faith, we continue to open our doors to all who seek connection and spiritual nourishment.
Whether you’re a lifelong Lutheran, exploring faith for the first time, or simply passing through, we welcome you into our church family.

Our Beginnings in Wiarton

The St. Peter’s congregation began in 1889, making it one of the oldest Lutheran communities in the region. Our original church was a wooden structure that sadly burned down in 1918 under suspected arson.
Undeterred, the faithful members of St. Peter’s rebuilt—this time with enduring stone. The current building was completed between 1922 and 1923, and has stood strong for over a century as a symbol of hope and resilience.

A Living Faith Community

Through the decades, the people of St. Peter’s have nurtured vibrant programs for all ages, including Luther League for young people and the Ladies’ Aid society. These groups have helped shape a strong, connected congregation rooted in love, service, and discipleship.
Today, St. Peter’s continues to be a place where faith comes alive. Our worship services, learning opportunities, and social groups create space for people to grow in Christ and in community.

Join Us in Worship and Fellowship

Our beautiful stone sanctuary is more than just a building—it is a spiritual home for many in Wiarton and beyond. Whether you’re seeking weekly worship, a welcoming faith community, or a quiet place to pray, St. Peter’s is here for you.
